Timothy Schofield, the Bath paedophile brother of TV presenter Phillip Schofield has been jailed for 12 years for child sex offences. He must sign as a sex offender for life and is barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
Timothy Schofield, 54, was convicted of 11 sexual offences involving a child, including two of sexual activity with a child, after a trial at Exeter Crown Court.
Timothy Schofield, a civilian police worker from Bath, Somerset, told the jury while giving evidence that he had watched pornography with the boy, who he insisted was over the age of 16 at the time.
He claimed they had masturbated while sitting apart and denied performing sexual acts on the teenager.
However, the jury found Timothy Schofield guilty on all counts with a majority of 10-2 after more than five-and-a-half hours of deliberation.
In an impact statement read to the court before sentencing, the victim said he felt like he was trapped in a loop of fear and anxiety about the abuse, and he only felt free when Timothy Schofield was arrested. He said he became someone who didn’t expect much from people.
He said the impact was “massive”, and he has changed, becoming bitter and “numb to life”. He said it was heartbreaking to see the effect on his mum.
The victim said he wished the impact had just stayed with him and not his family members. He also said the abuse caused hurt in his relationship with his girlfriend.
The judge told Timothy Schofield he exploited the child’s innocence for his sexual gratification. The judge said when the victim got a girlfriend, Schofield felt like a “jealous lover”. It was the boy who finally told Timothy Schofield the abuse would happen no more.
The abuse had a devastating impact on (the boy) and his family. The judge said: “Doing what you did, you thought only of yourself. Only of yourself.”
Avon and Somerset Police later dismissed Timothy Schofield, who had been suspended from his job at the force’s headquarters in Portishead after being arrested and charged without notice.
During the trial, jurors heard how Timothy Schofield told his elder brother Phillip in September 2021 that he and the complainant had watched pornography together.
In a statement released by his lawyer after the guilty verdict, the This Morning host said: “My overwhelming concern is and has always been for the wellbeing of the victim and his family. I hope that their privacy will now be respected.
“If any crime had ever been confessed to me by my brother, I would have acted immediately to protect the victim and their family.
“These are despicable crimes, and I welcome the guilty verdicts. I no longer have a brother.”
Fellow Paedophile Phillip Scholfield had a homosexual underage relationship with Matthew McGreevy which is why he is no longer on TV.
Timothy Schofield was convicted of three counts of causing a child to watch sexual activity, three of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, three of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and two of sexual activity with a child.
