A Pedophile recidivist Taylor Dueck has admitted guilt to the sexual assault of an individual under 16 years of age at an equestrian facility in Kelowna, B.C., earlier this year.

Taylor Dueck, as indicated in parole board filings, has a troubling history of sexual offences against minors and pleaded guilty on Monday to an incident that occurred on February 9.

Taylor Dueck, 30, also admitted guilt to violating probation terms, while the charge of invitation to sexual touching was dismissed by prosecutors.

The incident at the equestrian facility raised significant safety concerns, particularly as the Kelowna RCMP failed to issue a public alert regarding the presence of a high-risk sex offender in the vicinity.

Taylor Dueck has received a sentence of two years minus one day of incarceration. Following the credit for pre-trial detention, he will serve 240 days in incarceration.

He will be subjected to continuous home arrest for three years as part of his probation following incarceration, and he will remain on the sex offenders’ registry indefinitely.

In February, there was public indignation regarding the Mounties’ failure to issue a public interest warning concerning Taylor Dueck’s presence in the Kelowna area, a measure permitted under the Privacy Act of Canada when criminals are considered a risk to reoffend.

In October 2022, the Parole Board of Canada determined that Taylor Dueck had a “high risk to reoffend” against both strangers and acquaintances, especially individuals he deemed vulnerable to his advances.

At that time, Taylor Dueck was seeking day parole and full parole while serving a term for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old kid, as stated in the parole decision.

The parole board observed that Taylor Dueck perpetrated the offence less than two months following his release from incarceration in 2020, after serving a four-and-a-half-year sentence for sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.

At that time, both Mission Police and Abbotsford Police disseminated public alerts regarding his potential for reoffending.

In February, following the equestrian facility assault, Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth ordered an investigation into why Kelowna RCMP hadn’t issued a notification in Dueck’s case.

In a written statement, the Kelowna RCMP said at the time that it sought a public disclosure order prior to Taylor Dueck’s release, but “the threshold was not met in this case based on the totality of the circumstances.”

CBC News has contacted the lawyer who has previously represented Taylor Dueck, as well as the Public Safety Ministry for an update on that investigation.

A man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a girl, 16, whom he met online.

Winnipeg police began investigating in September 2024 after learning that a man was believed to be involved in a sexual assault of the girl, who was under the age of 16, police said in a Monday news release.

The girl met the man over social media in December 2023. She communicated and met him multiple times over the following months, during which police allege he sexually assaulted her.

The man was arrested after turning himself in to Winnipeg police last week.

He has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, obtaining sexual services from a person under 16 years of age, and luring a person under age 16 via telecommunications.
