Russell Le Beau, An Eastbourne van driver has been sentenced to four years in prison for failing to secure a scaffolding board, which struck a car’s windscreen and killed an 11-year-old boy.

Child killer, Russell Le Beau, 34, of Eastbourne, was driving his vehicle on Top Road in Hooe, East Sussex, when a collision occurred around 3 p.m. on December 15, 2022.

He had not properly secured the scaffolding boards on the van, resulting in one of them being hanging in mid-air at an angle over the carriageway in the other direction.

Scaffolding boards are used to create a platform for construction workers.

The protruding board would have been visible in Russell Le Beau’s wing mirror while driving, Lewes Crown Court heard.

Lee Dennis was driving his car in the opposite direction, his 11-year-old son Harry in the passenger seat and his 13-year-old daughter in the back.

Mr Dennis had no time to react to prevent the scaffolding board from striking Harry’s car window and causing significant injuries.

The boy had to be transported to Kings College Hospital in London, where he died from his injuries some days later.

Russell Le Beau was arrested and accused with causing death by unsafe driving.

Russell Le Beau, 34, from Eastbourne had early admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been jailed for four years at a hearing at Lewes Crown Court.
