The allegations against a senior police officer, Chief Inspector Mo Aziz, who was accused of rape and engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, have been dismissed without any explanation as to the reason why.
Chief Inspector Mo Aziz, from Bedfordshire Police, is facing charges of four counts of rape, two acts of assault resulting in serious bodily harm, and engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour.
In addition, he was accused of inducing a female to participate in sexual behaviour, as well as two charges of revealing or threatening to reveal private sexual photographs/films to cause distress.
Mr Mo Aziz refuted all the allegations and was scheduled for trial later this year. However, on Tuesday, the Crown Prosecution Service terminated its prosecution, as stated by Bedfordshire Police.
The police agency stated that the judge at Southwark Crown Court formally acquitted Mr Aziz since there was no longer enough evidence to convict him realistically.
Bedfordshire Police confirmed that they would thoroughly investigate Mr Mo Aziz’s behaviour. As a result, Mr. Aziz will continue to be suspended until the investigation is complete.
Mo Aziz has been under suspension since the accusations were levelled against him in July 2022.
Mr Mo Aziz received the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List of 2020 for enhancing diversity within Bedfordshire Police.
