Matthew McLellan, a depraved individual, masqueraded as a good Samaritan while sexually assaulting a defenceless woman in an isolated parking area.
Matthew McLellan, aged 50, targeted the 20-year-old individual at the NCP car park adjacent to Glasgow Central train station on April 15, 2024.
Matthew McLellan confronted his victim, who was prohibited from re-entering Bamboo nightclub to collect her possessions and companions. He asserted he would assist the woman, nevertheless he directed her to the sixth story of the parking structure instead.
Matthew McLellan, who had received a sentence for sexual assault at the High Court two months prior, attacked the frightened woman.
Fortunately, the assault was thwarted when a woman observed the duo together while retrieving her vehicle after work. The woman proceeded to transport McLellan’s victim to the hospital.
He was convicted yesterday of sexual assault resulting in injury at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
In February 2024, Matthew McLellan was placed on a community payback order and registered as a sex offender due to a High Court conviction.
He proceeded to perpetrate the present offence before being summoned in May to the High Court, where he is serving a 40-month term.
The latest trial heard that the woman had been at Bamboo with friends but had left the premises for fresh air. The woman was not allowed back into the nightclub after midnight to retrieve her phone, money or her friends.
She was later approached by Matthew McLellan while she was trying to get a taxi home.
CCTV shown to the jury followed Matthew McLellan as he walked with the woman to the NCP car park near Glasgow Central station.
He went on to seize his victim by the body, struggled violently with her and pressed an intimate area of his body against her over her clothing.
Witness Jennifer Ford saw the pair in the car park after she finished her shift when she was set to drive home. Matthew McLellan left the scene while Miss Ford drove the woman to hospital.
Sheriff Tom Hughes stated after the verdict that Miss Ford “deserved significant praise” for her actions and should be “commended.”
The sheriff added: “The jury were able to see how vulnerable that woman was and it is shocking a nightclub did that to a young woman.
“In my role, I have had several experiences of young women being put out nightclubs in similar circumstances.
“No one seems to care how they are going to get home but are happy to take their money to feed them with alcohol but are not prepared to make provisions to allow them to have their phones or money.
“Mr Matthew McLellan is a danger to young women in our society and we need to make sure you are dealt with appropriately in court.”
Sheriff Hughes stated that he is considering remitting the matter to the High Court for sentencing which was deferred until next month.
Matthew McLellan, who appeared from custody, had his remand continued meantime.
