An Gosport Rapist Louis Charles Cann who committed many acts of sexual assault and rape on two women over ten months in Portsmouth has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Louis Charles Cann, 38 years old, was accused of committing nine instances of rape during an inquiry conducted by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s specialised team for investigating rape and serious sexual offences.
Louis Charles Cann pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case proceeded to trial at Salisbury Crown Court.
The court was informed that the occurrences occurred between 1 February and 17 December 2022 in the Portsmouth and Gosport regions.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the two women, who were acquainted with Louis Charles Cann, were subjected to manipulation, threats of violence, and verbal abuse. Additionally, one of the ladies was physically beaten by Louis Charles Cann after refusing to engage in sexual activity with him.
Louis Charles Cann, a resident of Gosport, was convicted on all the charges and has been given a 20-year prison sentence, along with an additional 5-year extended licence period.
In addition, he received a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and was mandated to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
During the sentencing, Judge Adam Feest KC commented on the use of humiliation, degradation, extortion, and manipulation by Louis Charles Cann to commit rape against these women.
“Neither I nor anyone present during this case can fully comprehend the enduring psychological and emotional damage, anguish, and apprehension that your actions have inflicted.”
Detective Sergeant Samantha Brown, a member of the Operation Amberstone Team, expressed that the extent of sexual assault and abuse inflicted upon these victims by this abhorrent individual is genuinely alarming.
“These women were subjected to degradation, manipulation, and assault in an extremely abhorrent manner.” However, they have demonstrated remarkable bravery in confronting this cruel person, and as a result of their resilience and courage, Louis Charles Cann will now serve a substantial prison sentence.
