Lakshitha De Mel inundated his old companion with messages months after his release from prison for stalking her.

Lakshitha De Mel, aged 43, assaulted the 47-year-old woman in a flat in Govan, Glasgow, between April and May 2024.

Lakshitha De Mel dispatched around 400 abusive, menacing, and sexually explicit emails to his victim, an ex-neighbor.

This encompassed threats to disseminate a sexual film of the woman online if she did not engage in sexual relations with him.

Lakshitha De Mel was incarcerated after completing a 10-month term, from which he was freed in January 2024.

He entered a guilty plea today at Glasgow Sheriff Court over his most recent charge of stalking the victim.

The court was informed that the two individuals had formerly been neighbours and friends.

She later moved in with Lakshitha De Mel after her violent relationship with her partner had ended.

She stated that Lakshitha De Mel had been romantically interested in her but this was not reciprocated by her.

Upon his release from prison, the woman received several abusive emails from Lakshitha De Mel using the name ‘JasonXXtamer’.

He had been subjected to a non-harassment order after being freed which prohibited him from contacting the woman.

The woman initially deleted early emails as she did not want to go through court proceedings again.

Lakshitha De Mel went on to ask the woman to contact her on his mobile phone which she did not do.

He went on to call the woman a “we”, a “Pi we”, “b*” and a “c.”

The woman attended Greenock Police Office where she made a statement to police about receiving 400 emails.

This included messages that he would like to “rape” and “kill” her.

Prosecutor Victoria Keel said: “He said he would share a video of a sexual nature involving the woman on the internet if she did not have sex with him.”

Lakshitha De Mel was traced to his home address where he was arrested.

It was discovered that Lakshitha De Mel had also sent a message and a voice note to the woman’s friends regarding her.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Joan Kerr who continued Lakshitha De Mel’s remand in custody meantime.
