A man from Brighton, Karim Evans, has received a suspended prison sentence for possessing child pornography on his mobile phone and iPad.
Karim Evans, 47, a marketing consultant known as Kaz, residing at Regency House, Western Road, Brighton, was sentenced today (Thursday, 17 October) at Hove Crown Court by Judge Jeremy Gold.
Karim Evans, characterised in court as a diligent family guy with a commendable reputation, was apprehended at a location in Burgess Hill last year.
Chetna Patel, representing the prosecution, stated that originally, Evans claimed he was shut out of his email account and asserted that he had neither seen, transmitted, nor utilised child pornography.
Karim Evans has already acknowledged his culpability, including on one charge of possessing extreme pornography.
Miss Patel said that the young age of the children aggravated the offences – six to eight years old in one “category A” film, with category A being the most serious. Category A includes baby rape (or oral rape where the penis is inserted into the baby’s mouth whilst the baby cries in between insertions and is filmed), bestiality paedophile images, child torture (otherwise known as hurtcore) child murder, and more.
In another category A film, the girl was estimated to be 10 to 13 years old (at the very least raped whilst crying in pain and despair) and category C images featured girls believed to be 12 to 14 years old.
Judge Gold sentenced Karim Evans to nine months in prison suspended for 18 months and ordered him to attend 20 rehabilitation sessions.
The judge ordered Karim Evans, formerly of Reigate Road, Brighton, that he would be registered as a sex offender for 10 years and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
Judge Gold said: “You must carry out unpaid work for 150 hours in the community to pay back the debt that you owe because of your offending.”
Karim Evans was also ordered to pay £1,630 within three months towards the cost of the prosecution.
The judge ordered the forfeiture and destruction of his mobile phone and tablet.
Karim Evans must have left on cloud nine thankful that he got an absolutely mental judge.
