John Gilliver paedophile sex offender Ashford

Among the items Kent Police officials collected that resulted in the conviction of a Charing Paedophile John Gilliver from Ashford were recording equipment, including sunglasses with built-in cameras.

Before being convicted at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, July 11, 2024, John Gilliver of Maidstone Road, Charing, acknowledged many charges, including voyeurism.

John Gilliver, 62, was detained by police and summoned to Folkestone Harbour on Sunday, July 10, 2022, and was seen acting suspiciously and snapping pictures on the beach that afternoon.

Seized were sunglasses and a neck chain with image recording and storage capability. During a search, John Gilliver’s house in Charing yielded more devices and recording equipment.

Data taken from the devices turned out to include obscene photographs, including ones of minors.

Kent Police detectives’ inquiry turned up more voyeuristic crimes. John Gilliver was discovered to have surreptitiously placed cameras at the house of a man and a woman he knew, monitoring them for personal benefit.

Later on, John Gilliver was accused and entered a guilty plea to voyeurism and possessing an obscene image of youngsters. Along with being subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, he spent a year and eight months behind bars.
