A Carlisle Paedophile, Harold Nicholson, who regularly sexually assaulted a small child in the 1990s spent twenty years behind bars.
Reported to police in 2019 for the attacks was 71-year-old Harold Nicholson.
Found guilty of five charges of rape, Harold Nicholson of Holywell Crescent in Carlisle was imprisoned at the city’s crown court.
Police stated historical sexual crimes would be handled “no matter how much time has passed” and commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward.
“It is undoubtedly difficult and upsetting for victims of rape to tell about what occurred to them,” Det Con Kerry Gibson said, “but the bravery this woman has shown has helped us to get justice.
“Although Harold Nicholson’s acts have affected the victim’s life, I hope she and her family will be able to try to move forward now that justice has been done.
“I hope this sentence makes it abundantly clear to the offenders that no matter how much time has passed, serious sexual assaults will not be tolerated, and we will do everything within our power to hold them accountable for their actions and bring them to justice.”
