Online paedophile predator Gary Shanley participated in “revolting” sexual conversations with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old girl, even proposing to travel 400 miles to meet her if she were unclothed.
The 46-year-old Gary Shanley was searching for children online when he encountered a profile named Sophia.
A court was informed that he quickly sexualised the conversation, despite being aware that she was 12 years old, and discussed flying from his residence in Jarrow to meet her in Plymouth, where he was informed she resided.
Sophia was a decoy profile created by law enforcement on social media to entrap paedophiles attempting to interact with minors online.
Gary Shanley, of Hadrian Road, Jarrow, was jailed for two years for attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
