A convicted Paedophile from Perth, David Greig, known online as ‘Dangerous Dave,’ was sentenced to 12 months in prison after being discovered with two mobile phones capable of internet access.
The Perth Sheriff Court was informed that 42-year-old Paedophile David Greig had been prohibited from possessing the devices without the consent of his supervising officer, as stipulated by a 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) enacted nearly seven years prior.
Solicitor David Sinclair stated that his client had been utilising the phone to engage in a Facebook game titled ‘State of Survival.’
The lawyer asserted that, although necessitating online internet access, “the severity of the breach is comparatively minor, although two phones were obtained that should not have been.”
David Greig acknowledged that between November 20 to December 17, 2020, he possessed the phones at his residence on Allan Terrace, Perth, in violation of the court order issued on April 3, 2014.
At that time, he received a six-year extended term after being apprehended with a disturbing collection of child pornography, which included abhorrent videos and images of newborns.
David Greig was mandated to serve the initial three years in prison before being freed on parole for the subsequent 36 months.
Prosecutor Gail Russell stated that the defendant was released into the community on October 14, 2019, but was subject to “unannounced visits” by law enforcement.
During one instance, the accused “volunteered” information regarding his new Samsung phone.
A white iPhone, registered to David Greig, was found in the living room of a friend’s residence.
It was verified that both gadgets were capable of accessing the internet.
Mr. Sinclair stated, “A total of 134 items were removed from the friend’s residence.”
“All were assessed, and no abnormalities were found.” No obscene material was recovered.
While imposing the sentence, retroactively effective from December 18, when David Greig was remanded, Sheriff Gillian Wade stated: “The offence you committed constitutes a violation of a court order.”
“It is imperative that you adhere to any directive to which you are obligated.”
“You were already aware of this, having experienced it for a considerable duration.”
During his prior court appearance, David Greig was permanently registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register after a dozen pornographic videos and still images of boys, some as young as six months, were discovered on a memory stick in his possession.
David Greig was transported to the Perth Police Office due to concerns regarding his conduct in the city core.
Thirteen movies and four still images, all featuring males, were present, with ages spanning from six months to 15 years.
A computer tower was confiscated from his bedroom.
It contained 86 indecent photos, 68 of which were video files, some with explicit titles. Additionally, eighteen still images were retrieved.
The recordings portrayed the sexual exploitation of boys, aged from infancy to 15, predominantly classified as level four, the second most depraved category.
A total of 81 videos, with an approximate duration of four hours, were also confiscated.
A computer was discovered to have Skype installed, and an examination of the application revealed evidence that the accused had both distributed and received indecent photos of children.
He utilised the alias Dangerous Dave when using Skype.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis stated that the imposition of the 10-year SOPO was “necessary” to safeguard the public from the accused.
