Daniel Randall-Coles will serve four years in prison and five years on probation after admitting to 17 sexual assaults on women aged 11 to 38.
At Southampton Crown Court, the 25-year-old, Daniel Randall-Coles, from Millbrook Road West, Southampton, Hampshire, confessed to stealthily approaching women on his bicycle while clad in high-visibility attire and groping them. He repeatedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact by inserting his hand beneath their coats or skirts before absconding from the location.
During sentencing, Judge Ralls QC characterised the offence as “bizarre” and expressed his belief that Daniel Randall-Coles posed a threat to the public, as the offences indicated a premeditated nature, occurring within a span of around two weeks.
Weeping as his mother, sister, and partner—mother of his two-month-old son—observed from the public gallery, Daniel Randall-Coles listened to the prosecution’s account that between January 11 and January 29 of this year, he assaulted women when they were alone in public spaces, often preoccupied with their phones, listening to music, or exercising, and would approach them from behind on his bicycle and seize them.
The assaults occurred at multiple sites throughout the city, including West Quay, Above Bar Street, Southampton General Hospital in Millbrook, and Lordshill.
On other occasions, victims reported that he returned on his bicycle, chuckled or smirked at them, and one woman stated that he winked at her.
Victim testimonials presented to the court indicated that numerous individuals experienced feelings of “violation and intense fear,” along with sentiments of “disgust and shame.”
Daniel Randall-Coles received a four-year jail term and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to 15 counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexually assaulting minors under the age of 13.
He will be listed on the Sex Offenders Register and has received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an unlimited duration.
