An eight-year enhanced term has been handed to a man who battered and attempted rape of a Corby woman.
After spotting the woman he knew while passing in the town centre, 20-year-old- Cristian Vasian launched the attack on November 27, 2023 evening.
Vasian escorted the woman to a quiet area of Willow Place after walking and talking for around twenty minutes and tried to start intercourse. She answered no, and then he started forcing himself on her.
Two security officers stopped the victim’s suffering when they arrived at the scene following the start of the assault on CCTV, Vasian rushing off while the victim requested their assistance.
The attack was reported to Northamptonshire Police, and the attack was investigated quickly to identify the individual; investigators searched CCTV, visited companies, and conducted regular patrols looking for him.
Their tenacity paid off on December 3 when a camera operator spotted Vasian in a shop. Later that evening, he was arrested and subsequently charged with rape, attempted rape, and assault.
Appearing before Northampton Magistrates’ Court on December 5, he was remanded in custody and sent to Northampton Crown Court for trial.
Vasian later admitted the counts of attempted rape and assault by beating, and he went back to the same court for punishment Friday, May 31.
Made up of four years’ jail and a four-year extension period on parole, Vasian, of Gainsborough Road, Corby, was given an eight-year extended sentence – used for criminals convicted of certain offences regarded to be dangerous.
He was added to the sex offender registry and will have to pay a £228 victim surcharge and register with the police indefinitely once released.
