After causing “unimaginable trauma” with a spate of physical and sexual attacks, a Former SNP Paedophile equalities official, Cameron Downing, has been imprisoned for six years.
Over five years between 2016 and 2021, 24-year-old Cameron Downing attacked seven persons at several points around Scotland.
Early 2021 saw Edinburgh-born Cameron Downing sexually abuse one of his victims “on various occasions”.
The former drama student reportedly demanded he give his social media passwords, sent threatening texts to a partner, and threatened to falsely accuse him of rape should he not keep a sexual relationship with him.
Declared guilty of a total of 10 charges—including sexual and physical assault, as well as domestic abuse— Cameron Downing was convicted guilty last month by an Edinburgh jury at the High Court.
Judge Alison Stirling, sentencing him at the same court on Tuesday, informed Cameron Downing he had “the capacity to cause physical and sexual harm as well as psychological distress.”
She remarked, “You have distorted views regarding intimate partner violence; you have shown no regret or insight into how your actions may have affected your victim.”
“Your offences are likely to have caused significant psychological and physical harm to all of your victims,” the judge said. “Their psychological recovery from your actions could be prolonged.”
She said Cameron Downing was at significant risk of reoffending and displayed a “hostility towards women, lack of concern for others, sexual preoccupation and deviant sexual preference”.
Wearing a black suit, Cameron Downing showed no response when the sentence was delivered and blew kisses to the public gallery as he was being carried from the dock.
Representing Downing, Michael Meehan KC informed the court that he acknowledged the nature of his client’s actions and advised the court to “have regard to the impact on the victims”.
He said his client had been the target of homophobic and disparaging comments while in school, and he should be sentenced as a young person in line with his immaturity and capacity for rehabilitation.
Speaking following the sentence, Katrina Parkes, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offering for Scotland, said: “Cameron Downing is a dangerous person whose predatory and manipulative actions have inflicted unspeakable trauma.
“This prosecution has been made possible by the bravery and dignity of his victims.
“I would advise any victim of the same incident not to suffer quietly but rather to report it and get help.
“You will be listened to, and we will search for justice using every instrument at our disposal.”
Cameron Downing was made the subject of an indefinite non-harassment order concerning one of the complainers, who spent six years imprisoned with a further three years on licence.
Cameron Downing will also be listed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
